On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 7:05 PM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a house fire, at 5656 River Rd. in the Town of Trenton, Washington County. Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies, Newburg Fire Department, and the West Bend Fire Department responded to the scene.
The residence is a single-family ranch home. The tenant of the residence called 911 and advised there was a fire in the basement near the electrical panel. The male tenant attempted to extinguish the flames with a small household fire extinguisher. The house filled with smoke and the family of four evacuated the residence. Newburg fire personnel arrived on scene and began fire suppression efforts and quickly extinguished the flames.
The fire was contained to the interior south wall of the basement. The interior of the home sustained smoke damage. There was minor damage to the south basement interior wall. The home is valued at $200,000. Smoke and fire damage is estimated at $40,000. The origin and cause of the fire was investigated by the Newburg Fire Department. The origin of the fire appears to be the south basement wall near the electrical panel. The cause of the fire appears to be electrical.
River Rd. between Paradise drive and Prairie Dr. was shut down for approximately 1.5 hours for fire apparatus. The Newburg Fire Department was assisted by the West Bend Fire Department. The West Bend Police Department assisted with road closure. WE Energies assisted fire personnel on scene. The American Red Cross was declined by the tenants.
The male tenant was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. No fire or police personnel were injured.
