The Oaks of Jackson Groundbreaking – A Next Generation Housing Development
West Bend, WI – Washington County, in partnership with the Village of Jackson, is hosting a Groundbreaking Ceremony on May 8 at 11am for the Oaks of Jackson subdivision, the very first development in County Executive Josh Schoemann’s Next Generation Housing Initiative.
County Executive Schoemann, Mayor Tim Michalak for the City of Hartford, and Brian Heckendorf, the Village of Jackson President, will speak to invited guests and media at the event.
County Executive Schoemann said, “There are considerable hurdles to homeownership making it nearly impossible for our younger generation to purchase what were once called ‘starter homes.’ The American Dream of homeownership allows individuals and families to accumulate wealth which drives economic development, and builds community, civic engagement, and social connections.
There are currently a mere seven homes for sale under $300,000 in Washington County without pending or contingent offers and none in Jackson. Very few developers are satisfying the demand for this ‘missing middle’ housing stock.”
The Oaks of Jackson is a 20-acre subdivision south of the Jackson Municipal Complex, with a total of 101 owner-occupied housing units planned for the site. Home construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2023 with the first home sales in spring of 2024.
Next Generation Housing (NGH) sets out to create 1,000 new owner-occupied dwelling units in NGH developments by 2032, with 75% selling for under $320,000 and 100% under $420,000, including home and lot/site.
