On Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 6:20 PM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a chimney fire, at 4047 CTH D in the Town of Barton, Washington County. Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies and the West Bend Fire Department responded to the scene.

The residence is a single-family two-story home. A citizen driving on CTH D observed active flames on the eastside exterior of the home near the chimney. The citizen called 911 then immediately made contact with the homeowner who was inside unaware that their residence was on fire. There were two occupants in the residence along with four dogs. The occupants and the dogs immediately evacuated the home. At the time of the fire the occupants had an active fire in the family room wood fireplace. West Bend fire personnel arrived on scene and began fire suppression efforts and quickly extinguished the flames.

The fire was contained to the chimney area. The interior of the home sustained minor smoke damage. There was minor damage to the exterior east side of the residence, the roof and the chimney. Smoke and fire damage is estimated at $50,000. The origin of the fire appears to be the chimney. The cause of the fire appears accidental.

CTH D between Victoria Dr. and Kettle View Dr. South was shut down for approximately 2 hours for fire apparatus. The West Bend Fire Department was assisted by the following fire departments; Jackson, St. Lawrence, Newburg, Kohlsville, Allenton, and Kewaskum.
