Washington County Launches New Water Education Campaign

WEST BEND, WI –Washington County is announcing a new initiative aimed at water education and featuring a new website hub.  The education campaign is part of the county’s Water Health Initiatives which were named a strategic priority last year centering around balancing development with conservation.  The county re-envisioned the vintage ‘water drop’ character that will be used throughout the campaign.

County Executive Josh Schoemann said, “we strive to preserve the natural beauty of the lakes, rivers and woodlands in Washington County by finding a balance between green space and development. Educating residents on how they can take active steps to protect our natural resources is key to sustaining these efforts.”

The County’s Natural Resources Department provides residents with resources on handling hazardous waste, improving lake shorelines, controlling rainwater runoff, protecting wetlands, understanding septic systems, farming for healthy soils, and taking steps to protect lakes and drinking water.  The education campaign includes the following:

A new website, www.washcowisco.gov/watereducation,  that serves as a hub for water education information and features tools for requesting education workshops from area experts;

  • A robust social media effort focused on these educational messages;
  •  A workshop series focused on educating the public regarding various water quality topics; and
  • Various educational materials provided to county residents and new riparian homeowners;

As part of the effort, the following presentations open to the community have been scheduled.  Organizations and residents can also request a presentation on various topics on the department’s new website.
