Case: Barn Fire in the Town of Hartford
Authority: Sgt Brad Rodich #416
On 10/03/2025 at 1:21pm, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center took multiple 911 calls reporting black smoke coming from a barn on Clover Road in the Town of Hartford. Deputies, Hartford Fire and St Lawrence Fire were subsequently dispatched to the scene. While they were still enroute, contact was made with the property owners who stated that the barn was unoccupied and did not contain any animals.
Upon the arrival of responder’s, the pole barn, which was approximately 50 x 40 was partly engulfed. The response was upgraded to the Working Still level. The fire was quickly knocked down and extinguished by the fire department. A vehicle inside the barn and some additional equipment sustained damage, with total losses of approximately $30,000. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
The investigation revealed that hot embers from a burn pile located near the barn likely spread and caused the fire. Hartford Fire and St. Lawrence Fire were assisted by Slinger Fire, Lifestar Rescue, WE Energies and the State Patrol.
