Everyone deserves access to emergency information, services, and support. This page provides resources for people who may need additional assistance before, during, or after an emergency, including individuals with disabilities, older adults, people with medical needs, and others who may face barriers during disasters.
Planning Ahead
Planning ahead can make emergencies safer and less stressful. Small steps taken in advance can help ensure you have the support and information you need.

Emergency Alerts & Accessible Information
Receiving emergency information in a format that works for you is critical. The following resources provide accessible emergency alerts and guidance.
National Weather Service -- Accessible Weather Information
The National Weather Service offers accessible weather alerts and resources, including:
- Plain-language
- ASL weather briefings (when available)
- Multiple alert delivery options
NWS accessible resources:
Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA)
Wireless Emergency Alerts are short emergency messages sent directly to mobile phones. These alerts do not require sign-up and are designed to reach people quickly during serious emergencies.
During an Emergency
During an emergency:
- Follow instructions from local officials
- Use trusted information sources
- Ask for help if you need assistance
If you rely on caregivers, neighbors, or support services, communicate your needs as early as possible.
After an Emergency
Recovery may take time, and additional support may be available. Assistance programs may include:
